70's Summer

One if the big trends for Spring/Summer 2011 is the 1970's. As a mid 70's baby my memory is blighted by forest green braided outfits combined with a dash of hand knitted everything!

However I can safely say that the 70's reincarnation this Summer is a much more sophisticated affair. Platform shoes & a wide brimmed hat are de rigueur. Trouser suits, all-in-ones, button-through skirts are all must-haves. Maxis, whether printed or in Halston-esque fluid jersey are on-trend. Fringing & lattice work are key. Space-dyed knits are everywhere.

Colours are earthy. Think terracotta, ochre & chocolate mixed with turquoise & purple.

Accessories are key. In particular tan accessories are must-have items. Fringed bags, platforms & brimmed hats, as I mentioned earlier, & agate stone jewellery are also perfect.

Here are a few of my favourite 70's inspired SS11 catwalk looks. Plus I've thrown in a few complimentary jewellery suggestions from our current range here at Cherry & JoyCatwalk images courtesy of style.com.

Autumn Winter 2011 Milan Fashion Week

It's been a tumultuous few days in the world of fashion with the revelations about John Galliano, but the fashion train rolls on...

Although the fash pack are now firmly into Paris fashion week, this post will focus on Milan.

Admittedly it's not usually my city of choice when it comes to the shows. I'm not a great lover of Cavalli, Versace etc. Too flamboyant for me. However this season I found myself more impressed than usual with the offering.

Here are some of my favourite collections. All images courtesy of style.com.

Great colour & amazing boots at Alberta Ferretti...

Great lace & texture at Bottega Veneta...

Amazing leather at Dsquared2...

Vibrant colour & 70's glamour at Gucci...

The best of the rest...

The Oscars Frocks

I always like to take a peek at the outfit choices on show at the Oscars. This year the offering seemed somewhat subdued. I couldn't spot any outright howlers, although I'm not sure Marisa Tomei chose the most flattering dress.

Red was a prevalent colour, with Sandra Bullock keeping it simple & pulling it off to the greatest effect in Vera Wang. Subtle, shimmering silver tones were also popular with Gwyneth Paltrow being praised for her Calvin Klein choice. My favourite silver look was Hilary Swank in Gucci Premiere, keeping accessories to a minimum & letting the dress do all of the talking.
